‌The range for the detection of silicate in boiler water of thermal power plants is usually from 0 to 2000 μg/L and needs to follow standards such as GB/T12149-2017.This article will provide an in-depth discussion of the ranges and standards for the detection of silicate in boiler water from thermal power plants as well as an introduction to the use of trace silicate (silicate) testers for boiler water from thermal power plants.

I. Importance of detecting silicate in boiler water of thermal power plants

Silicate is one of the main impurities in boiler water, and its high content will lead to scaling of the boiler and the inner wall of the pipeline, which will seriously affect the heat exchange efficiency and even cause safety accidents. Therefore, regular and accurate detection of silicate content in boiler water is of great significance to ensure the safe production of thermal power plants.

II. Ranges for the detection of silicate in boiler water of thermal power plants

The range for testing silicate in boiler water in thermal power plants is usually determined by the specific requirements of the boiler and the performance of the testing equipment. In general, the range is wide and covers silicate content from trace amounts to higher concentrations.Common ranges include 0 to 200 μg/L, 0 to 500 μg/L, and 0 to 2000 μg/L.Choosing the right range ensures the accuracy of the test and avoids wasting resources.

III. Criteria for the detection of silicate in boiler water of thermal power plants

Thermal power plant boiler water testing of silicate should follow the relevant national or industry standards to ensure that the test results are authoritative and comparable. At present, GB/T12149-2017 "Determination of Silicon in Industrial Circulating Cooling Water and Boiler Water" is one of the more commonly used standards. The standard specifies in detail the determination method of silicate, reagent requirements, operating procedures and calculation of results, which provides a scientific basis for the detection of silicate in boiler water of thermal power plants.

IV. Silicate detection methods and steps

Method for determination of silicate in GB/T12149-2017 standard. The specific steps are as follows:

Determination principle: Under specific pH conditions, silicate and ammonium molybdate react to form a silica-molybdenum complex, which is then reduced to silica-molybdenum blue by a reducing agent, with the depth of colour proportional to the concentration of silicate.  ‌

Reagent preparation: Acid ammonium molybdate solution: ammonium molybdate mixed with concentrated sulphuric acid.

Oxalic acid solution: Oxalic acid mixed with concentrated sulphuric acid is prepared for shielding against interference.

Reducing agent: Ammonium ferrous sulphate solution is usually used. ‌

Measurement procedure: Take 100mL of water sample, add acidic ammonium molybdate solution, mix well and leave it. Add oxalic acid solution, mix well and leave. Add the reducing agent, mix well and leave it to be measured.

Determination was carried out using a silicate analyser and the results were recorded.

Caution: All reagents should be stored in specially labelled polyethylene plastic bottles.

The reagent quality grade must be analytically pure or above and prepared using high quality deionised water.

In power plants, chemical fertiliser, metallurgy, environmental protection, pharmaceutical, chemical fibre, semiconductor and other industries, it is particularly important to accurately detect the soluble silica content in boiler water and circulating cooling water.Too high or too low a silicon content may have adverse effects on the system, such as scaling and corrosion problems, which can affect productivity and product quality.Erun's environmental silicate analyser, developed according to GB/T12149-2017 "Determination of Silicon in Industrial Circulating Cooling Water and Boiler Water", it can detect the silicate content of (0.0~200.0)μg/L or (0.0~2000)μg/L content. The light source adopts imported monochrome cold light source, excellent performance, stable signal, low power consumption, long life, cyclic data storage, automatic overflow removal, simple operation, convenient query, power-off data storage time of more than 10 years. For detailed information you can directly consult customer service.
